Wednesday’s District 9 Basketball Playoff Previews


ST. MARYS, Pa. (D9Sports) – One boys’ game and three girls’ games are slated for the District 9 playoffs Wednesday weather permitting.

The boys’ contest is a Class 4A semifinal contest between St. Marys and Bradford, while the girls’ games include a Class 4A semifinal matchup between Clearfield and St. Marys, a Class 1A quarterfinal tilt between Northern Potter and Coudersport and a Class 2A quarterfinal battle between Cranberry and North Clarion.

CLASS 4A BOYS’ SEMIFINALS

NO. 3 ST. MARYS AT NO. 2 BRADFORD
When and Where: 7 p.m. at Bradford
Winner Gets: Top-seeded Clearfield in the championship game
Records: St. Marys 7-14; Bradford 10-12
St. Marys Leading Scorers: Cahil Parrish (11.3 ppg), Nick Catalone (7.8 ppg), Luke Lasko (7.5 ppg)
Bradford Leading Scorers: Tyler Gigliotti (17.3 ppg), Gage Babcock (8.2 ppg), Steve Knowlton (8.0 ppg)
Last District 9 Title: St. Marys 2011 in Class 3A; Bradford 2013 in Class 3A
Notes: This is the second meeting in three days between these D9 League rivals. Bradford won on Monday, 49-38, in Bradford. It is also the third meeting of the year between the Owls and the Dutch. St. Marys took home a 38-22 win Jan. 4 in St. Marys

CLASS 4A GIRLS’ SEMIFINALS

NO. 3 CLEARFIELD AT NO. 2 ST. MARYS
When and Where: 7 p.m. at St. Marys
Winner Gets: Top-seeded Punxsutawney in the championship game
Records: Clearfield 9-13; St. Marys 16-6
Clearfield Leading Scorers: Alayna Ryan (21.0 ppg), Megan Durandetta (5.5 ppg), Tesa Miller (5.5 ppg)
St. Marys Leading Scorers: Megan Quesenberry (12.5 ppg), Kyla Johnson (8.6 ppg), Kaylee Muccio (7.5 ppg)
Last District 9 Title: Clearfield 2000 in Class 4A; St. Marys 2001 in Class 3A
Notes: This is the second meeting of the year between these teams. St. Marys won the first, 43-31, Jan. 23 in Clearfield.

CLASS 1A GIRLS’ QUARTERFINALS

NO. 7 NORTHERN POTTER VS. NO. 2 COUDERSPORT
When and Where: 7 p.m. at Austin HS
Winner Gets: Winner of Tuesday’s North Clarion/Elk County Catholic game
Records: Northern Potter 11-11; Coudersport 17-4
Northern Potter Leading Scorers: Abbi Anderson (12.1 ppg), Courtney Martin (8.0 ppg), Mirissa Bliss (7.7 ppg)
Coudersport Leading Scorers: Shae Black (13.9 ppg), Sarah Chambers (13.4 ppg), Rosalyn Page (8.9 ppg)
Last District 9 Title: Northern Potter Never (Last appeared in title game in 1988 in 1A); Coudersport 2018 in Class 2A
Notes: Coudersport has won two D9 titles in a row, both coming in Class 2A before the Lady Falcons moved down to 1A this year … Coudersport last won three titles in a row between 2001-04 when the Lady Falcons won four straight crowns … This is the third meeting this year between these teams. Coudersport dominated the first two winning 47-23 in Ulysses Dec. 12 and 58-24 in Coudersport Jan. 16.

CLASS 2A GIRLS’ QUARTERFINALS

NO. 5 CRANBERRY VS. NO. 4 CLARION
When and Where: 7 p.m. at North Clarion High School
Winner Gets: Top-seeded Kane
Records: Cranberry 12-10; Clarion 15-7
Cranberry Leading Scorers: Malliah Schreck (19.3 ppg), Maddie Cornelius (5.8 ppg)
Clarion Leading Scorers: Kait Constantino (12.8 ppg), KK Girvan (10.5 ppg), Wendy Beveridge (8.9 ppg)
Last District 9 Title: Cranberry 2012 in Class 2A; Clarion 2014 in Class 1A
Notes: This is the third meeting this year between these KSAC rivals. Clarion won the first two meetings getting a 52-44 home win Dec. 18 and a 48-45 road win Feb. 1 … This is a rematch of a quarterfinal game from a year ago won by Cranberry.
