Wednesday’s High School Baseball/Softball Roundup: Punxsy Beats Brookville in Baseball & Softball

BROOKVILLE, Pa. (D9Sports) – Logan Johnston went 1-for-3 with a double and three RBIs to lift visiting Punxsutawney to an 8-3 win over Brookville.

Lucas Burkett and Brandon Matthews both scored twice for the Chucks, while Tyler Richardson was 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Tyler Park was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored for Brookville.

Isaac Stouffer, who added a hit and an RBI, got the win going 4 ⅔ innings giving up three runs, one earned, on six hits and a walk while striking out four.

Dane Lyle took the loss going four innings and allowing four runs on five hits and four walks while striking out one.

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 8, DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 6

DUBOIS, Pa. – Elk County Catholic used a six-run sixth inning to knock off DuBois Central Catholic, 8-6.

Dan Stauffer’s two-run home run started the rally in the top of the sixth. It was Stauffer’s lone hit of the game.

Jordan Nasoni was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored to lead ECC with Eric Gerber also scoring twice.

Justin Miknis was 1-for-2 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs for DCC, which scored five of its runs in the second inning.

Austen Cogley was also 2-for-4 with a run scored the Cardinals.

Alec Wehler got the win in relief going five scoreless innings allowing three hits and two walks. Stauffer picked up the save pitching a scoreless seventh walking one and striking out one.

Thomas Grecco suffered the loss allowing seven runs, six earned, on six hits and three walks while striking out five in five-plus innings of work.

SOFTBALL RECAPS

PUNXSUTAWNEY 5, BROOKVILLE 2

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Tessa Winebark went 3-for-4 with a run scored, as Punxsutawney pulled away from Brookville late to get a 5-2 road victory.

The Lady Chucks were up 2-1 going to the sixth but scored twice in the sixth and once in the seventh while giving up a run in the bottom of the sixth to create some space.

Morgan Adamson was also 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored for Punxsy, which snapped Brookville’s five-game win streak, while Kim Shoemaker added a pair of hits and a run scored and Alli Ishman two RBIs in support of her own cause.

Ishman went the distance giving up two runs, one earned, on five hits and no walks while striking out six.

Hannah Kirkwood paced Brookville going 2-for-3 with a triple, a run scored andan RBI. Carlie McManigle also drove in a run, while Marcy Schindler had a triple.

McManigle took the loss giving up five runs, one earned, on eight hits and a walk while striking out one.

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 7, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 0

DUBOIS, Pa. – Ashley Wruble tossed a five-hit shutout, as DuBois Central Catholic knocked off visiting Elk County Catholic, 7-0.

Wruble walked one and struck out six in getting the victory.

Shay Gulvas hit a three-run home run during a five-run third inning for the Lady Cardinals that started with a triple by Jordy Frank, who also had a solo home run in the first inning when DCC scored twice.

Riley Assalone was also 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored for the Lady Cards with Wruble helping her own cause with an RBI double in the first and scoring on the Gulvas homer in the third.

Michelle Gerber went 2-for-3 to pace ECC. She also took the loss allowing seven runs, five earned, on nine hits and two walks.
