Say What?!: Beer Festival Features Brew Made with Weasel Poop

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Among the 274 beers at the Snallygaster beer festival in Washington, D.C., was a brew with a most unusual ingredient — coffee beans salvaged from weasel poop.

Beer Geek Brunch Weasel, a beer brought to the festival by Danish brewer Mikkeller, is made with Vietnamese coffee beans passed through the digestive systems of civet cats, a member of the weasel family.

“The fussy Southeast Asian animal(s) are picky and will eat nothing but the best and ripest coffee berries. Enzymes in their digestive system aid the process of breaking down the beans which brews a strong, fist-in-the-air flavored coffee,” the brewer said on its website.
