High School Baseball Roundup: Shugarts Paces Brockway Past Kane

Wednesday’s high school baseball recaps.

Brockway 13, Kane 1, 5 INNINGS

BROCKWAY, Pa. – A 10-run third inning fueled a 13-1, five-inning win over visiting Kane.

Seth Shugarts was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs to pace the Rovers. Michael Martino was also 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Corey Carr was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, Cameron Baka was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Shugarts got the win going five innings and allowing one run on four hits while striking out five.

DUBOIS 10, BROOKVILLE 1

DUBOIS, Pa. – DuBois scored seven runs in the first two innings on its way to a 10-1 win over visiting Brookville.

Brayden Paulinelli was 3-for-3 with a double and four RBIs to pace the Beavers. Adam Bankovich and Ryan Pasternak also had doubles with Bankovich going 1-for-3 with an RBI and Pasternak 1-for-1 with two walks, an RBI and three runs scored. Nick LaBrasca also had a pair of RBIs and went 1-for-3 with two runs scored.

Ryan Radaker got the win in relief. He went 3 ⅓ innings allowing an unearned run on three hits while striking out five.

Tate Rutherford went three scoreless innings allowing two hits and three walks. Brendon Foley pitched ⅔ of an inning scoreless.

Ben Reitz was 2-for-4 for Brookville, while Ben Caun had a double and an RBI an RBI.

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 7, DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 3

DUBOIS, Pa. – In a battle between two of the top Class A baseball teams in District 9, one-loss Elk County Catholic scored four times in the top of the 10th innings to hand DuBois Central Catholic its first loss of the season, 7-3, up on the hill in DuBois.

Ross Brennen got the win throwing nine strong innings giving up three runs, all in the first inning, on nine hits and a walk while striking out four.

Alex Dattoli pitched a scoreless 10th allowing a hit and striking out one.

Meanwhile, ECC had 15 hits in the contest led by Gabe Kraus going 4-for-5 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. His two-bagger was one of three ECC extra-base hits on the day.

Eric Gerber and Ryan Heary also each had doubles with Gerber going 1-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored and Heary finishing 2-for-6 with an RBI and a run scored.

Nate DaCanal, Brad Dippold and Connor O’Leary also had two-hit days for the Crusaders with DaCanal going 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored, Dippold 2-for-6 and O’Leary 2-for-5 with a run scored.

DCC stats weren’t available.

ECC improves to 8-1 on the season, while DCC drops to 8-1 leaving Oswayo Valley (12-0) as the lone unbeaten team in the district.
