Lilian M. Hogan

HOGANlilianLilian M. Hogan, 92, a resident of Franklin, died peacefully at 4:10 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2016, in the Brookville Hospital with her daughters by her side; following a period of declining health.

She was born February 5, 1924, in London, England; a beloved daughter of the late Harold and Lilian Phillips Lawford.

Mrs. Hogan had worked as a nurse in her native England prior to coming to America with her family. She had worked for many years as a seamstress with the former Kessler Drycleaners of Oil City. She had also worked for a time at the former American Greeting Card Company in Reno.

She was happiest as a homemaker for her family. She enjoyed cooking and sewing, and the companionship of her beloved dogs.

She was married to William Whitehill, who preceded her in death. On April 5, 1964, she married Francis Hogan. He preceded her in death on August 8, 1996.

She is survived by two daughters: Beverly A. Mighells and her husband Clyde of Howard, PA and Melissa C. Carter of Franklin; in addition to 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a great-great granddaughter.

Also surviving is her sister, Eileen Beechey of New Zealand.

In addition to both her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Priscilla J. DeWoody and by her son, William J. Whitehill.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no public visitation.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service in celebration of her life, Saturday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of The Caring Place in Franklin; with Reverend Jonathan Bell, officiating.

Private interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions, if desired, may be directed in her name to the Christian Loving Fund of The Caring Place, 103 N. 13th Street, Franklin, Pa. 16323.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Timothy E. Hartle Funeral Home, 1328 Elk Street, Franklin.
