Teen Dies After Garbage Explodes in Burn Barrel in Bell Township

1812d1140135579-stat-medevac-stat1[1]BELL TWP., Pa. (EYT) – A 15-year-old boy died as a result of a freak accident that occurred yesterday afternoon.

According to Punxsutawney-based State Police, around 5:15 p.m., the 15-year-old male victim was burning bags of garbage in a metal burn barrel at 17 Smay Lane, in Bell Township, Clearfield County.

While he was putting a bag of garbage in the barrel, an item in the barrel exploded, hitting him in the neck, police say.

He was flown to UPMC Altoona Hospital for treatment and died from his injuries, according to police.
