Hunter served his country in the United States Marines during the Korean War as a signalman.
A graduate of Tidioute High School, Doug was an amateur Ham Radio Operator and a member of the Amateur Ham Radio Club of Punxsutawney. He enjoyed being able to communicate to people around the world with his radio.
March 9, 1956, he married D. Dorene (Noerr) Hunter, who survives.
Doug attended Chestnut Grove Independent Church. He was very involved with the building of the new church and also served as an elder.
He worked for 44 years for the former Bell Telephone Co., now Verizon, as a lineman, switchman and retired as a Trained Microwave Technician.
