Police: Jefferson County Man Shot Friend, Cut Up Body with Chainsaw in Drug Deal Gone Bad

shugarsPUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (EYT) – Authorities have released new details in the murder of a Jefferson County man.

On Sunday, Sept. 15, State Police in Punxsutawney received a report from a fisherman of human remains that were located below the bridge near the village of Hamilton in Perry Township, Jefferson County.

The victim was determined to be Chet Allen Haddow, 33-years-of-age, of Punxsutawney.

On Monday, Sept. 16, information uncovered by investigators lead to the arrest of 32-year-old Michael Christopher Shugars of Punxsutawney.

Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that Shugars allegedly shot Haddow during a drug deal.

Police say Shugars then drove Haddow to his Punxsutawney home and cut up his body with a chainsaw.

Shugars then allegedly scattered the body parts throughout Jefferson and Indiana counties.

Detectives say numerous tips from the public led to the arrest of Shugars.

Shugars faces the following charges:

  • Criminal Homicide
  • Aggravated Assault – Felony 1
  • Robbery – Felony 1
  • Abuse Of Corpse – Misdemeanor 2
  • Simple Assault – Misdemeanor 2
  • Theft By Unlawful Taking – Misdemeanor 3

Shugars is being held without bail in Jefferson County Jail. He faces a preliminary hearing on Oct. 1.
