No. 2: Gavin Park of Brookville wins PIAA Wrestling Title at 120 Pounds

The legacy of Brookville wrestling is well known, and in 2017 120-pounder Gavin Park added to that legacy won he won the Raiders second PIAA state title in as many years in Class 2A.

Park added his name to the list of Brookville state champions when he became the sixth Raider to win a PIAA title doing so by beating Benton’s Cole Rhone, 4-3.

Trailing 3-2 in the second period, Park got an escape to tie it at 3, and then Rhone conceded an escape early in the third period which ended up costing him when Park didn’t give him a chance to score any more points.

Park finished the season 43-3, a D9 and PIAA champion.

No. 1: Brookville’s Thrush Goes Back-to-Back in PIAA 400

Win one state title in any sports and it’s a special moment.

Do it twice, two years in a row, in an individual sport where it’s you vs. the rest of the state, that’s history-making stuff.

That’s exactly what Brookville 400-meter runner Ryan Thrush did in late May at the PIAA Class 2A Track & Field Championships.

A week after leading the Raiders to the District 9 title, Thrush defended his 400 title at the state meet when he edged out Hill-Freedman’s Armonte Paulk 48.18 seconds to 48.56 seconds at Shippensburg’s Seth Grove Stadium.
