Brookville Man in Hot Water After Alleged Protection from Abuse Order Violation

BROOKVILLE, Pa. (EYT) — Police say a Brookville man is facing harassment charges after violating a protection from abuse order.

Court Records show that on January 22, the Brookville Borough Police Department filed criminal charges against 46-year-old Kenneth Paul Lucas, of Brookville, in Magisterial District Judge Gregory M. Bazylak’s office.

According to a criminal complaint, on January 18, 2024, Brookville Police Officer Andrew Turnbull met with a known female victim regarding a possible violation of a Protection From Abuse Order (PFA). The victim told Officer Turnbull that since approximately July 2023, Kenneth Lucas, Jr. had been consistently in violation of the PFA.

On September 12, 2022, Jefferson County Judge John H. Foradora signed and issued a PFA expiring on September 12, 2025. The order protects the victim from any contact with Lucas by telephone or any other means, including third parties, states the complaint.

The victim displayed to Officer Turnbull a list of emails sent by Lucas to her email. In less than the period of one week, Lucas allegedly exceeded 12 emails requesting the victim unblock and speak with him, the complaint indicates.

The complaint notes the messages alone indicate Lucas is aware the victim is attempting to avoid contact.

On January 18, 2024, at approximately 11:58 a.m., Lucas texted the victim. He also called the victim’s phone at 11:57 a.m., 12:02 p.m., and 2:06 p.m. It was noted that Lucas made the calls from a phone number not belonging to him to allegedly conceal his identity while calling, or to otherwise remain anonymous, according to the complaint.

The victim provided Officer Turnbull with copies of several emails and a screenshot of the January 18 text message, the complaint states.

At approximately 4:43 p.m. the same day, Officer Turnbull attempted to contact Lucas at his known number. Lucas called him back and attempted to deny he was the one contacting the victim until he was informed that the officer would file a warrant to show the email address and phone numbers came from his phone. At this point, Lucas acknowledged that he had contacted the victim, according to the complaint.

According to court records, Lucas was arraigned at 1:50 p.m. on January 22, on the following charges in front of Judge Bazylak:

  • Harassment – Communicates Repeatedly in Anonymous Manner, Misdemeanor 3
  • Harassment – Course of Conduct without Legitimate Purpose, Summary

Unable to post $5,000.00 monetary bail, Lucas was lodged in the Jefferson County Prison.

A preliminary hearing is set for February 8, at 9:45 a.m., with Judge Bazylak presiding.
