Animal Cruelty Charges Filed After Pigs Rescued from Property in Winslow Township

WINSLOW TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Multiple counts of animal cruelty have been filed against a Reynoldsville man following the rescue of several pigs from a property in Winslow Township.

Court documents indicate the DuBois-based State Police filed criminal charges against 68-year-old Glenn Lee Geer on January 15.

According to a criminal complaint, around 10:51 a.m. on November 8, 2021, DuBois-based State Police were dispatched to check the welfare of pigs at a residence on State Route 310 in Winslow Township, Jefferson County.

At the scene, police reportedly observed three pigs in a “sloppy” fenced area, including one pig with an injury to its back rectum area.

Police then made contact with the property owner, identified as Glenn Geer.

According to the complaint, Geer told police he was raising the pigs and admitted he knew their need for basic living conditions was not being met.

An animal rescue organization then responded to the scene and rescued the three pigs. Veterinary care was provided for the animals. However, the injured pig died due to its condition, the complaint notes.

According to the complaint, upon further investigation also found there were initially five pigs, but only three remained alive when police arrived at the scene.

The following charges were filed against Geer through Magisterial District Judge David B. Inzana’s office on January 15:

– Aggravated Cruelty to Animals – Causing Serious Bodily Injury or Death, Felony 3 (three counts)
– Cruelty to Animals, Misdemeanor 2 (five counts)
– Neglect of Animals – Vet Care, Misdemeanor 3 (three counts)
– Neglect of Animals – Shelter/Protection, Summary (five counts)
– Neglect of Animals – Sustenance/Water, Summary (five counts)
– Neglect of Animals – Vet Care, Summary (two counts)

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on March 29, with Judge Inzana presiding.
