Paleoanthropology is the scientific study of human evolution to understand the lengthy process of change in physical and behavioral traits which led to the gradual emergence of anatomically modern humans from now-extinct primates over approximately six million years.

In his program, “Homo erectus to Us,” John Sites, of the French Creek Chapter of the Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology, focuses on how climate change has affected this development of early man from the beginning. It includes some discussion on evolution, which Darwin had some concerns about, and centers on the development of Homo erectus to Neanderthal to modern man

John will present his program on Friday evening, April 19, at the regular meeting of the North Fork Chapter 29 of the Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology. He will also bring examples of tools made as early as 1.7 million years ago.

The program begins at 7:00 pm at the Presbyterian Church Education Building located at the corner of White and Main Street in Brookville.

This event is free and the public is invited to attend.
