Area Man Airlifted After Slamming Vehicle into Tree in Burnside Township

BURNSIDE TWP., Pa. (EYT) – An area man was airlifted after his vehicle slammed into a tree in Burnside Township last week.

Punxsutawney-based State Police say the crash occurred around 5:03 p.m. on October 14, on State Route 286/Dowler Highway just north of Brink Lane, in Burnside Township, Clearfield County.

According to police, 39-year-old Douglas A. Turner, of Burnside, was operating a 2006 Subaru Legacy, traveling north on State Route 286 when he failed to negotiate a lefthand curve in the roadway, proceeded straight off the eastern berm for approximately 218 feet, and struck a tree. The vehicle then traveled another 100 feet before coming to a final rest, facing west.

Police say Turner was not using a seat belt.

He suffered injuries of unknown severity and was airlifted to UPMC Altoona by LifeFlight.

The vehicle sustained disabling damage.

The crash remains under investigation.
