Area Man Killed in Indiana County Crash

EAST WHEATFIELD TWP., Pa. (EYT) – An area man suffered fatal injuries in a crash that occurred in Indiana County on Tuesday.

According to police, around 2:51 p.m. on December 1, a two-vehicle crash occurred on State Route 56 just north of Shellbark Road in East Wheatfield Township.

Police say 55-year-old Darren A. Rapp, of Altoona, was operating an unspecified vehicle traveling eastbound on State Route 56 while 58-year-old Joel E. Bundy, of DuBois, was operating a 2007 GM Sierra, traveling west on State Route 56, when Rapp’s vehicle traveled over a snow/ice patch on the roadway.

According to police, Rapp’s vehicle then slid over into the westbound lane and struck Bundy’s vehicle head-on.

Police say Bundy succumbed to his injuries from the crash.

Rapp and three passengers from Rapp’s vehicle were all transported to Conemaugh Hospital by Citizen’s Ambulance for minor injuries.

The crash investigation is ongoing.
