Area Woman Hospitalized After Icy Roadway Conditions Cause Rollover Crash on Route 53

BECCARIA TWP., Pa. (EYT) – An area woman was hospitalized after icy roadway conditions led to a rollover crash in Clearfield County Friday morning.

According to Clearfield-based State Police, troopers responded to a one-vehicle crash that occurred on Glen Hope Boulevard (State Route 53) in Beccaria Township, Clearfield County, around 7:47 a.m. on Friday, November 3.

Police say further investigation revealed that a 2016 Jeep Compass driven by 33-year-old Cassandra A. Irvine, of Irvona, was traveling at an “inappropriate” speed for the current conditions as the roadway was covered in a thin layer of ice due to low temperatures.

According to police, Irvine failed to negotiate a left curve and lost control when encountering ice on the roadway.

Irvine failed to regain control of the vehicle and struck an embankment.

The vehicle then rolled on its roof and back onto its tires, coming to rest in the southbound lane.

Irvine was transported to UPMC Altoona by Madera Volunteer Ambulance Service for suspected minor injuries.

He was using a seat belt.

According to police, Irvine was charged with a traffic violation.
