Barnes Helps Curve Snap Skid

CURVE, Pa. – Barrett Barnes drove home the go-ahead runs for the Altoona Curve in the third inning in a 5-2 victory over the Richmond Flying Squirrels at Peoples Natural Gas Field on Tuesday night.

Barnes drove home Erich Weiss and Kevin Newman with a two-run single to give the Curve a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the third.

Altoona (59-49) snapped a four-game losing streak, and won its eleventh consecutive game against Richmond (45-62).

The Curve extended their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on an Anderson Feliz RBI single to make for a 5-2 game.

Altoona starter Cody Dickson (Win, 9-3) retired eleven of the final 13 batters he faced from the third through sixth inning, finishing his night after allowing two first inning runs on five hits with three walks and four strikeouts.

Josh Smith, Brett McKinney and Montana DuRapau (Save, 18) combined to toss three scoreless relief innings and combined to allow just two baserunners, both via walks. DuRapau struck out the side in the top of the ninth to clinch his 18th save, the second most in the Eastern League.

Richmond scored the first two runs of the game against Dickson in the top of the first inning on RBI hits from Carlos Moncrief and Chris Shaw.

The Curve answered in the bottom of the second on a Justin Maffei RBI single to bring the Curve within 2-1, and the Curve tied the game at 2-2 on an Erich Weiss RBI single in the third.

Maffei led the Curve offense with a 3-for-4 night, scoring once and driving in a run, while Feliz and Barnes also each knocked two hits.

The Curve and Flying Squirrels continue their series on Wednesday at 7 p.m. from PNG Field. Altoona lefty Brandon Waddell (7-6, 4.33) gets the start, opposing Richmond right-hander Sam Coonrod (3-2, 3.30).
