Benefit Dinner for Local Woman with Rare Brain Condition Set for Saturday

BROOKVILLE, Pa. (EYT) – A benefit dinner for an area woman who is undergoing treatment for a rare brain condition is set for Saturday, November 16.

Local resident Christy McMillen was recently diagnosed with a cerebral arteriovenous malformation (AVM) in her right temporal lobe.

AVM is a rare abnormal connection between arteries and veins in the brain which puts individuals like McMillen at an increased risk for brain bleeds.

In November, she will undergo brain surgery for the AVM. The first surgery will be to embolize the AVM. If the embolization does not work, she will undergo a craniotomy the next day.

Though there is a risk of stroke and infection with the surgery, the risk of doing nothing is higher.

Because the costs of the copays, doctor bills, trips to Philadelphia, hotel rooms, road tolls, and gas have already started to add up, a benefit dinner has been planned to help with expenses.

The dinner is scheduled for November 16, from 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. (or until sold out) at the Brookville Fire Company, located at 240 Madison Avenue in Brookville.

The dinner will consist of a choice of homemade soup, side salad, a roll, drink, and dessert. Soup choices will include Chicken Noodle, Beef Noodle, Chili, Italian Wedding Soup, Stuffed Pepper Soup, Cheesy Broccoli Soup, and Ham & Bean Soup.

The cost is $8.00 per person and $5.00 for kids 5 and under.

Tickets will be sold at the door and takeouts will be available (containers will be provided).

In addition, there will also be a basket auction during the event.

Anyone who wishes to donate money, a dessert, a basket, or time is invited to message the event Facebook page.
