Bernice L. Whiteman

bernice whitemanBernice L. Whiteman of Clarion, formerly of Summerville, PA died at the Golden Living Center in Clarion, PA on Saturday, April 16, 2016, at the age of 90.

Born on March 4, 1926 in Summerville, she was the daughter of the late Berge and Ethel (Hughes) Ishman.

Bernice was married to James Whiteman on February, 18, 1950 in Cumberland, MD, he survives. She worked as a laborer at Sylvania in Brookville, Hawthorne Manufacturing, Clear Creek State Park, Ishman’s Restaurant and Bar, and The Hourglass Restaurant and Bar as a cook and cleaner. She was very active in local politics. She served on the election board in Summerville for a number of years. She ran for Jefferson County Register & Recorder once. She enjoyed flowers and her hobbies included spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Summerville Presbyterian Church.

Along with her husband, she is survived by a son, Craig (Debbie) Whiteman of Summerville, Sandy (Don) Himes of Fisher, Deb (Mark) Campbell of Strattanville, a brother, Norman (Bud) Ishman of Summerville, a sister, Betty Wright of Brookville, eleven grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death three brothers, Clarence Ishman, Melvin Ishman, Robert Ishman, and two sisters, Geraldine (Ishman) McLaughlin and Velma Sarvey.

Her family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 from 9:30 – 11:00 AM at the Furlong Funeral Home, Gregory K. Furlong FD, corner of Broad St. and First Ave., Summerville, PA. The funeral service will follow at ll:00 AM with Rev. James Dietrich officiating.

Interment will be at St. John’s (Windy Hill) Cemetery, Rose Twp., Jefferson Co., PA.
