Bertha E. Wiseman

1968_smBertha E. Wiseman, 91, of Rimersburg, PA, went home to be with her Lord Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at Clarview Nursing Home with her family by her side.

She was born January 29, 1923 in Knox Dale, Jefferson Co., PA, the daughter of David and Bertha (Hill) King.

Bertha lived in Rimersburg all of her life and honorably served in the US Army during World War II. She worked as a cook and was immensely proud to be a veteran. During her time of service, she was awarded the WMC Service Ribbon, WWII Victory Medal, American Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Following her time in the army, Bertha worked as an inspector at Owens Illinois in Clarion for 35 years, retiring 1983. After leaving her job, she was excited to turn all of her attentions to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a member of Baker Street Church of God and previously taught Sunday school at the Nazarene church. Bertha was a lifelong member of Disabled American Veterans and also belonged to American Legion Post 454 of Rimersburg. Reading the Bible was one of her favorite activities, and in her younger years enjoyed playing women’s softball. The Steelers and the Pirates were her favorite sports teams and she faithfully watched their games every week. Bertha was known for always wearing a hat, and will be best remembered for her strong Christian faith, devotion to her family and service to her country.

She will be deeply missed by her sons, James King and wife, Donna, and Pete Wiseman and wife, Pam, all of Rimersburg; grandchildren, Tim King and wife Tracy, Matt King and wife Linda, Chris Wiseman and wife Lori, Amy Wilson and husband Ryan, Dr. Bethany Wiseman and Kelli Kifer and husband Dustin; great-grandchildren, Zackary Wiseman, Sam Wiseman, Luke Wilson, Cole Wilson, Parker Wilson, Peyton Wilson, Andrew Kifer, Emma Kifer and Olivia Kifer; step-great-granddaughter, Morgan Prior; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bertha was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Lisa Wiseman; brothers, John H., Ardell, Reynolds, Pete, James and Mark King; and sisters, Evelina Smith, Mary Rearick, Jenny Redick and Marie King.

Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Friday, May 30, 2014 at the Bauer-Hillis Funeral Home, 758 Main St., Rimersburg.

Additional visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Saturday, May 31, 2014, at the Baker Street Church of God, 160 Veteran St., Rimersburg, with the Rev. John A. Milliron officiating.

Burial will be in Rimersburg Cemetery, Rimersburg, PA where full military honors will be presented by the Rimersburg VFW Post #7132 and American Legion Post #454.
