BIG RUN, Pa. (EYT) — Following an investigation by Punxsutawney-based State Police, a Big Run woman is facing two felony charges for the alleged theft of an ATV.
According to online court documents, PSP Punxsutawney filed criminal charges against 22-year-old Dana Lynn Maines, of Big Run.
According to a criminal complaint, on October 18, 2016, Trooper Clark, of PSP Punxsutawney, spoke with (the known owner) of a 2014 Kawasaki KFX 450R four-wheeler who stated that in October of 2015, he was living in a Big Run house that burned down. He stated that he asked Maines to keep his four-wheeler for him because he was moving to Punxsutawney and did not have a truck to haul it. He also indicated that Maines said she would keep the ATV at her residence in Big Run.
Later, (the known owner) of the ATV said he tried to contact Maines about the ATV but did not get in touch with her. He said he did not give Maines permission to get rid of the four-wheeler, the complaint states.
On October 25, 2016, Trooper Clark talked to Maines, and she said she had agreed to keep the ATV because (the known owner) could not haul it to where he was moving to in Punxsutawney. Maines then said she tried to contact (the known owner) several times to pick up his four-wheeler, but he never did, the complaint indicates.
As a result, on September 30, 2016, Maines decided to get rid of the ATV because she was tired of it sitting in her yard. She was contacted by (a known man) who wanted to know how much she wanted for the ATV, and Maines said $400.00, the complaint continues.
(The known man) then asked Maines if she would take a Mossberg .22 scoped rifle for trade on the ATV, and she agreed. Then, on October 2, 2016, Maines called (another known man) to see if he wanted to buy the rifle for $150.00, and he bought it from her, according to the complaint.
Based on the investigation, Maines was arraigned at 9:55 a.m. on January 30 in Magisterial District Judge David B. Inzana’s office on the following charges:
– Theft By Unlaw Taking-Movable Property, Felony 3
– Theft By Deception-False Impression, Felony 3
She is free on $10,000.00 unsecured bail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on February 28 with Judge Inzana presiding.
