The South White Street (State Route 36) bridge will be re-named the Captain Raymond “Bud” Hetrick Bridge in an unofficial ceremony in the parking lot of the Evangelical United Methodist Church.

Captain Hetrick was a United States Air Force pilot from Brookville. While on a search and rescue mission in rural Laos in February 1966, he was shot down. Captain Hetrick was listed as a POW/MIA. The Air Force continued to send teams into Laos in an attempt to locate his remains.

Finally, after 35 years, Captain Hetrick was brought home. In September 2003 “Bud” Hetrick was buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. Members of American Legion Post 102 and The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 204 attended the service.

“We are honored to be able to dedicate this bridge in honor of Captain Hetrick,” said Post 102 American Commander Bill Littlefield.

Members of the Hetrick family will be arriving for the ceremony from as far away as Nebraska.

A reception will be held following the service.

The first bridge in the series to be re-named was the Pickering Street Bridge which is now known as the Slagle Memorial Bridge in honor of World War Army Ranger Jim Slagle.

The service is being hosted by American Legion Post 102, veterans of Foreign Wars Post 204, the Brookville Laurel Festival, and the Brookville Borough.
