PITTSBURGH, Pa. (EYT) – Former Brockway Area Lady Rovers soccer standout Chanell Britten has been exceptional on and off the soccer pitch for many years.
The Point Park University senior was recently featured on the institution’s website which details her standout play in soccer and especially for her internships with The JASON Project and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Point Park University is a private, four-year university located in Pittsburgh and is home to around 3,300 students and both baccalaureate and master’s degrees. The institution is a member of the River States Athletic Conference in athletics and competes in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
Britten is graduating forward for the Pioneers who accumulated 15 goals and eight assists over four college seasons. She also was inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma National College-Athlete Honor Society Point Park Rho Chapter in February for achieving over a 3.40 grade-point average. She will graduate with a 3.97 grade-point average overall. Before her college soccer days, Britten set the Lady Rovers girls’ soccer career goals record with 164 and helped the program to four appearances in states and three District 9 titles. She was also named the Upper Allegheny Valley Soccer League’s (UAVSL) Most Valuable Player three times in high school.
The intelligence and national security major and criminal justice minor will graduate in May and at the time of this piece is hopeful to remain in Pittsburgh to begin a career full-time and study to complete Point Park’s Master of Arts (M.A.) in Intelligence and Global Security starting in August. Her dream career is to work for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) or the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Her two internships certainly help give her an impressive resume to present to potential employers and possibly even these government agencies in the future.
Her first internship experience came at The JASON (Judicial Assistance Serving Our Neighborhoods) Project. This non-profit organization is operated by Point Park University criminal justice alumnus, Mark Thompson, and serves a mission of supporting people needing assistance navigating the court system. Britten worked as a non-profit legal research intern and took notes during court proceedings to serve clients and help advocate for them.
Britten’s second internship came with the Pittsburgh Pirates of Major League Baseball (MLB) in guest services as a security intern. This opportunity specifically was focused on gate security and helped her to understand car searches, and verifying credentials and gave her a first-hand look at what it’s like to work with a K9 unit. It truly fulfilled her passion for serving others and keeping them safe while also working in sports which have always been a significant part of her life.
