Brookville and Pine Creek Fire Departments to Lend Mutual Aid

BROOKVILLE, Pa. (EYT) – The Brookville Borough Council agreed to enter into a mutual aid agreement with Pine Creek Township at the Tuesday council meeting.

The move which would allow the Brookville Fire Company and Pine Creek Volunteer Fire Department to lend assistance to each other across their jurisdictional boundaries was approved unanimously by the Brookville Borough Council.

This allows Brookville Fire Chief Dave Miller to submit the necessary paperwork to the Jefferson County 9-1-1 Center alerting them that they can dispatch both fire companies when it is necessary, regardless of jurisdictional and municipal boundaries.

The two fire departments will still be funded through their own means of income.

“We’d be more than happy to support (Pine Creek Township), whatever help they need,” Miller said. “They’re always good to help us.”

Council members were also positive about the agreement.

“I am really glad to see the two fire companies working together,” Brookville Mayor Richard Beck said. “I’m glad they got this passed.”

“I think it’s great that they’re working together,” Councilman Richard Baughman added.

Bike Racks Approved

In a tight three to two vote, the council approved the installation of bike racks on Main Street properties maintained by Brookville Borough, with council members Randy Bartley and Richard Baughman voting against the measure.

The ordinance requires that each bike rack that seeks to be public property be approved by Brookville Borough. The borough will not pay to have bike racks installed, however, they will responsible for maintaining the bike racks as if they were public property.

Other Borough Business

In other business, the council:

  • Rejected a request to sign onto a grant application to plant trees along the memorial park, stating it lacked the necessary detail for their comfort.
  • Approved exemption of Penn Highlands from a borough code dictating the number of parking spaces necessary per square foot. The council members said parking would not be an issue for the public at this facility.
  • Approved a special event permit for Relay for Life for August 3 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Details of the event have yet to be released, but officials said traffic will not be heavily impacted.
