Brookville Borough Council Approves Tax Ordinance for 2020

BROOKVILLE BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – Brookville Borough Council unanimously approved the ordinance for the 2020 taxes at Tuesday evening’s meeting.

The ordinance adopts a total millage of 16.915 on the total real estate tax, 36 mils on the occupation tax, $52 for local services, and the $5 per capita tax.

The total real estate tax includes the real estate, fire protection, library, and street lighting taxes. The breakdown is 14.29 mils for the municipal real estate tax, 1.5 mils for fire protection, the library is 0.225 mils, and street lighting is 0.9 mils.

Borough Manager Dana Schreckengost explained: “If you’re comparing apples to apples, the general real estate tax went up because we have eliminated a debt service tax. It got encompassed into the real estate tax because we still have that debt service, however, we pay it off in November. Since we have one month without it, we can’t have a debt service tax.”

She went on to note that the only real increase was the .3 mil increase to the fire tax.
