Brookville Borough Council OKs Mutual Aid Agreement with Punxsy

BROOKVILLE, Pa. (EYT) — Brookville Borough Council approved a mutual aid agreement for its police department to respond to Punxsutawney in dire emergency situations.

Council members questioned Chief of Police Jason Brown about the agreements.

“We don’t have to send someone; it’s up to our discretion,” Brown said. “We’re not going to leave Brookville high and dry for this.”

“What it comes down to is – if some type of disaster and extreme emergency situation occurs, we can help another department out and they can help us out,” Brown said.

Brown said he expected Clarion to approve its mutual aid agreement with Brookville at its meeting Wednesday.

Borough Solicitor Jim Dennison said the borough could separately approve mutual aid agreements with other municipalities.

Brown also gave a report on his department’s work in June. Brookville Police responded to 1,442 calls, wrote 89 reports, made 66 traffic stops, 18 felony arrests, and 49 misdemeanor arrests.

In other business, Borough Manager Dana Shick received approval from council to apply for Community Development Block Grant money through Jefferson County to do work to improve Sandy Way, a street located off Belgiumtown Road just before the Rose Township line.

Shick also said there will be a hearing at the July 18 meeting for the Sheetz liquor license transfer. It will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Also, Brookville Volunteer Fire Department treasurer Mike Wonderling issued a report.

The department responded to 14 calls, including eight motor vehicle accidents and two for downed power lines.

He added that five new members signed up and that the department, in conjunction with Pine Creek and Reynoldsville Volunteer Fire departments, used the old Days Inn property for training exercises.
