Jefferson County Man Accused of Resisting Arrest

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (EYT) – A Brookville man is facing a criminal charge after allegedly resisting arrest during an incident involving a probation officer.

Court documents indicate the Punxsutawney Borough Police Department filed the following charge against 34-year-old Timothy Ryan Carulli, of Punxsutawney, on December 12:

– Resist Arrest/Other Law Enforcement, Misdemeanor 2

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday, December 18, in front of Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock.

Case details:

According to a criminal complaint, around 10:15 a.m. on November 21, 2018, Jefferson County Probation Officer Deshong visited Timothy Ryan Carulli at his place of employment in Punxsutawney to get a urine sample from him as a condition of his probation.

According to the complaint, after collecting the sample, Officer DeShong attempted to take Carulli into custody.

The complaint states that Officer DeShong was aware that Carulli had a pocket knife in his pocket for work, and when Carulli reached into his pocket, Officer DeShong pulled his taser from his holster and ordered Carulli to put his hands out.

Carulli complied and Officer DeShong reholstered his taser and began to handcuffed Carulli’s hands.

According to the complaint, Carulli then jerked his hands back and yanked the cuffs out of Officer DeShong’s hands.

The complaint notes that Carulli, who had one hand in the handcuffs, with the second cuff swinging in the air, then began to verbally threaten Officer DeShong, saying “come back [expletive].”

Officer DeShong then drew his taser a second time and was able to take Carulli into custody.

Court documents indicate Carulli is serving probation on a third-degree felony criminal attempted forgery charge from 2016.
