BROOKVILLE BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – Theft charges have been filed against a Brookville man accused of failing to pay a bill for service to his vehicle.

Court documents indicate the Brookville Borough Police Department filed criminal charges against 63-year-old Derek V. Plyler.

According to a criminal complaint, around 9:00 p.m. on May 7, Brookville Borough Police were provided information regarding an incident of possible theft of services.

According to the complaint, a known business in Brookville Borough provided parts and service to Derek Plyler totaling $1,185.64 on October 27, 2020.

The complaint states that in early April 2021, Chief Vince Markle, of the Brookville Borough Police, sent a letter to Plyler advising him that he needed to pay the debt, but as of May 8, 2021, the debt was still not paid.

Police then attempted contact with Plyler via phone several times with no success. Officers were then able to make contact with Plyler at his residence.

According to the complaint, Plyler told police he had a verbal agreement with the business to pay at a later date and time. However, the complaint states that on May 14, police were informed the information Plyler gave them about the agreement was false.

The complaint notes police were also provided with a copy of the unpaid bill with the itemized charges totaling $1,185.64.

The following charge was filed against Plyler through Magisterial District Judge Gregory M Bazylak’s office on May 17:

– Theft of Services – Acquisition of Service, Misdemeanor 1

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on July 6, with Judge Bazylak presiding.
