Brookville Man Falls Asleep at Wheel, Crashes on I-80

CLARION CO., Pa. (EYT) – Police say a Brookville man fell asleep at the wheel and crashed on Interstate 80 in Richland Township early Monday morning.

According to police, around 5:49 a.m. on Monday, August 13, 20-year-old Frank R. Paden, of Brookville, was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu traveling east on Interstate 80 near mile marker 44.9 in Richland Township, Clarion County.

Police say Paden fell asleep at the wheel, and his car drifted off the north side of the roadway. He steered back onto the roadway then countersteered, causing the vehicle to strike the embankment of the median.

The vehicle struck the median embankment a second time on the westbound side of Interstate 80 causing disabling damage. It then impacted the guide rail and rolled over onto its driver side on the westbound lanes before rolling back onto its wheels and coming to a rest facing north.

Paden was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.

He was charged with a traffic violation.

Emlenton Volunteer Fire Department, Emlenton Ambulance, and Hovis Towing assisted at the scene.
