Brookville Man Falls Victim to Facebook Identity Theft Scam

POLK TWP., Pa. (EYT) – A Brookville man has fallen victim to a Facebook identity theft scam.

On October 5, around 5:00 p.m., an identity theft was reported to DuBois-based State Police.

According to police, a 67-year-old Brookville man reported that a Facebook friend’s account was hacked. The victim then followed a fraudulent link sent from his Facebook friend’s account and input his cellular telephone number.

The victim’s personal information, including his social security number, was exposed.

He did not lose any money; however, his personal information was utilized in an attempt to open a credit card account in Tampa, Florida.
