Police Chief Jason Brown reported at Tuesday night’s Borough Council meeting that the new cruiser, bought with money donated by the Brookville Eagles Club, will be delivered at the end of this week or early next.

Just about two months ago, the Club donated $27,205 to the Borough Police Department to buy the new patrol car.

Also, council member and Brookville Volunteer Fire Company Fire Chief Steve Hoak thanked all the fire companies and borough police that responded to the electrical fire Sunday at the Jefferson County Courthouse on Main Street.

The call came in around 11 a.m. for a report of smoke on the ground floor of the courthouse.

Crews found smoke in a holding cell near the old jail and were able to trace it an electrical box fire.

“It made my heart stop for a few seconds,” Hoak said. “But fortunately, we still have our beautiful courthouse.”

Parking was also a topic of considerable conversation at Tuesday’s meeting.

Nicole Cable of the Brookville Civic Club asked permission to decorate downtown parking meters with cornstalks and that was granted.’

She also asked for permission to cover downtown parking meters with decorative covers in the month of December.

Some council members were concerned about the loss of revenue, but Hoak came up with a plan that was agreed upon by council.

Parking meters will be covered in the downtown on Main Street Nov. 25-28, Dec. 2-4, Dec, 9-11, Dec. 16-18 and Dec. 23-31.
