On Tuesday evening, the Brookville Borough Council approved a new proposed “hybrid” Riverwalk plan for submission to the Army Corps of Engineers.

According to Borough Council President Phil Hynes, the Riverwalk Committee had a very constructive meeting with Arthur McKinley, who initiated the project, regarding the proposal, to create the new plan.

Hynes noted that McKinley’s initial plan and the plan presented by the engineer from the Gwin Dobson company were both taken into consideration in the creation of the new plan.

“The council’s committee had to get together and try to determine what plan we’re going to submit to the Army Corps of Engineers for their approval to see if this project can move forward, and because the plans were so divergent, we had a lot of back and forth as to what was feasible and what wasn’t,” Hynes said.

“We’ve come up with a plan that is basically a hybrid plan that limits the Riverwalk phase one to the south side of town, which basically circumvents the ball fields, the river along the south shore, and it is not, at this point proceeding, to the north side of town.”

According to Hynes, while the first phase of the project would be limited to the south side of town, later phases could expand further.

“That does not mean that we won’t consider going to the north side in some future phase, but we have to start somewhere.”

The plan will now be submitted to the Army Corps of Engineers for feedback and approval.

Hynes also noted, as stated at a previous borough council meeting, that the project will not involve any borough funding.
