Brookville Woman Allegedly Admits to Being Intoxicated, Stealing Pickup

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (EYT) – A Brookville woman faces felony charges for allegedly stealing a pickup in Punxsutawney Borough last week.

Court documents indicate the Punxsutawney Borough Police Department filed criminal charges against 23-year-old Tiffany Marie Bair, of Brookville.

According to a criminal complaint, on Thursday, March 8, a known Punxsutawney man reported the theft of his pick-up truck, a white 2000 Chevrolet Silverado with a regular cab and a long bed. The victim stated that he left the vehicle parked in front of his residence with the keys in the vehicle.

The vehicle was entered as stolen, and a BOLO (be on the lookout) was issued to surrounding law enforcement agencies.

Around 3:00 p.m., Officer Miller, of the Punxsutawney Borough Police Department, received a written statement from a known woman who reported that between 1:30 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 8, Tiffany Bair came to her residence intoxicated. She reported Bair said she had been drinking with another woman, and over the course of the evening, her belongings started coming up missing, first her coat, then her phone, and then her wallet and cigarettes, so she decided to leave. The woman reported that she asked Bair how she got to her apartment, but Bair did not answer. She said she asked Bair if she walked or got a ride, and Bair just said, “no.” She said Bair told her she saw a vehicle on a side street and drove it there. She said Bair told the woman she was going to a gas station in Summerville.

Officer Miller received information that the stolen vehicle had been found in a ditch on State Route 36 between Punxsutawney and Brookville. State Police were contacted, and the vehicle was towed by Rebuck’s Southside Service.

Around 5:15 p.m., Tiffany Bair arrived at the Punxsutawney Borough Police Department to turn herself in. She provided Officer Miller with a written statement regarding the theft of the truck. She reported that between 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7, and 3:00 a.m. on March 8, she went on a binge with drinking and was severely intoxicated; she stated that she had been drinking 99 Bananas and Jack Daniels, and she decided to “be stupid” and steal a vehicle. She reported that she stole a white truck and was driving to see a friend when she slid on a patch of ice and ended up driving into a ditch on Route 36. Bair stated she did not take anything from the truck and left the keys in it when after it got stuck in the ditch. She stated that her purple bag was still in the bed of the truck with her pill bottles of medication in it, according to the complaint.

Bair was arraigned at 11:18 a.m. on Friday, March 9, in Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock’s office on the following charges:

– Theft By Unlawful Taking-Movable Property, Felony 3
– Receiving Stolen Property, Felony 3
– Unauthorized Use Motor/Other Vehicles, Misdemeanor 2

Unable to post $40,000.00 monetary bail (10%), she was lodged in the Jefferson County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 27, with Judge Mizerock presiding.
