Brookville Woman Killed in Accident While on Vacation in North Carolina

Monna Irene Wilson, 79, of Brookville, PA, passed away unexpectedly on June 24, 2019, as a result of a vehicle accident while on vacation in North Carolina.

Born on October 29, 1939, in New Bethlehem, PA, she was the daughter of Leonard Snyder and Jeannette Irene Burkett Atwell. Monna was the wife of John A. Wilson, who preceded her in death in 2013.

Monna retired in 2001 as a proud 30+ year employee of Owens-Illinois and was active in the local 247 Glass Molders Pottery Plastics & Allied workers union at OI. Monna was an extremely active and young-spirited woman who was loved by many friends and family. She was an avid outdoorswoman, enjoying hunting turkey, fishing, and birdwatching. Her appreciation of nature was unmatched, and her adventurous exploring always led her out to the woods. Monna loved cooking for her family—using vegetables from her garden, canning absolutely anything in season, and always sending her grandkids home with fresh sugary peaches that she spent hours preparing. She was a resilient woman, taking on any challenge that faced her with full steam, and always making time to care for everyone in her life who needed help. Her free time was filled with traveling across the country and up and down Pennsylvania with her sisters and her close friends. She especially enjoyed hanging out with the elk in Benezette – always taking her kids and grandkids on adventures to teach them about the outdoors. She loved camping and visiting the white sandy beaches of Panama City Beach, FL, and national parks all across the US—her favorite was Bryce Canyon. When she wasn’t on the move, you could find her buying and selling antiques or working around the house.

She is survived by her children Kim D. Skalicky (Jake) Means of Brookville, David L. “Leroy” (Betty) Rhines of Brookville, Patricia H. Rhines (Isao) Nojima of Los Altos, CA; and Shelly R. Skalicky (Danny) Long of Chapel Hill, NC; her grandchildren Will A. Skalicky and Katelyn C. Means, her great-grandchildren River S. and Lydia R. Skalicky, and her two sisters, Jeannie Simmons and Lana “Lanny” Snyder, both of Westfield, PA. She is also survived by her stepchildren, Wayne (Rhonda) Wilson of Corsica, PA; Allen Wilson of Orange Park, FL; and Christine Bland of Middleburg, FL; as well as numerous step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband John, her son Terry Skalicky, and her granddaughter Megan Skalicky.

At her request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Interment will take place at Riggs Cemetery in Richardsville, PA.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home, ltd, 345 Main St., Brookville, PA 15825.
