BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Western PA CARES for Kids Child Advocacy Center held its eighth annual duathlon, 5k, and community walk this past Saturday.

This yearly event helps raise funds for the non-profit agency helping children who may have been physically or sexually abused, or may be a witness of a crime.
The duathlon was the first of the day and consisted of a 3.1-mile run on designated trails in Cook Forest, a 12-mile bike ride over River Road, and a 2.1-mile run on trails in the forest. The duathlon could be done as a team of two or three people or solo. The 5k was a 3.1-mile run on trails in Cook Forest.
The community walk was not timed but was a two-mile walk that many members of the community took part in to support Western PA CARES for Kids. Racers of all ages and experience competed in this year’s event
Winners of the Men’s Duathlon Solo were as follows:
- First Place – Keelan Kunselman
- Second Place – Mike Shaffer
- Third Place – Terry Reid
Winners of the women’s Duathlon Solo were as follows:
- First Place – Kennedy Weisner
- Second Place – Renee Miller
- Third Place – Marlo Perry
Winning Duathlon Teams as follows:
- First Place Team – Buddy Young and Owen Bartlebaugh
- Second Place Team – Bash Brothers
- Third Place Team – Cliff Clark and Eugenia Clark
Women’s 5K Winners:
- First Place – Erika Doolittle (age 9)
- Second Place – Joyce Brownlee
- Third Place – Lisa Allen
Men’s 5K Winners:
- First Place – Ean King
- Second Place – Chad Kauffman
- Third Place – Kellan Haines (age 10)
The day ended with a free lunch for everyone along with an awards ceremony.
