Pitt (2-3) scored three times in the first quarter with Browne tossing the long scoring passes to Moss and Weah and Qadree Ollison adding a 10-yard scoring run. Moss then made it 28-0 at the half with a 1-yard scoring run late in the second quarter.

The Panthers outgained Rice 470 to 277 and held the Owls to 55 yards rushing on 23 carries.

Rice scored on a 70-yard Jackson Tyner to Austin Walter pass in the third quarter when it scored the only 10 points of the quarter to cut Pitt’s lead to 28-10.

But the two short Browne scoring passes in the fourth quarter put the game away.

Weah had five catches for 137 yards and the touchdown, while Rafael Araujo-Lopes added five for 72 and Aaron Mathews four for 50. Moss had two catches for 63 yards and ran 14 times for 22 yards.

Pitt returns to action at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Syracuse.
