Carl Duane “Porky” Adams, 89, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Tuesday, December 08, 2020 at McKinley Health Center in Brookville.

He was born on November 2, 1931 in Dora, a son of the late James Adams and Florence (Hawk) Adams.

On February 3, 1951 he married the former Mildred Snyder. She survives.

Mr. Adams drove log truck for many years, he also worked as a heavy equipment operator for the coal industry.

“Carl will be remembered by family and his many friends as a warm and caring man with an engaging, sometimes mischievous, sense of humor. He was well-liked by everyone. He always seemed to be the designated comedian at family functions and reunions, this in a family with more than a few witty comics. Little kids were drawn to him and he had a talent for making them laugh. He enjoyed tinkering in his garage, working on his vehicles and anything else he could take apart. He was a bit of a treasure hunter, filling his garage with odds and ends found during his explorations and frequent long walks, he was a fan of NASCAR and, for much of his life, he liked to hunt and fish and always enjoyed observing wildlife. Most of all he like being surrounded by his family.”

In addition to his wife, Mildred, he is survived by four children, Linda (Gary) Shaffer of Punxsutawney, Rhonda Adams of Punxsutawney, Richard Adams of Johnstown, and Valerie (Daryl) Freedline of Dayton; two grandchildren, Thomas D. Shaffer of Punxsutawney and Nicholas (Lacey) Shaffer of Punxsutawney; one sister, Doris Smouse of Wellsboro; one brother in-law, Dale Smithberger of Lorraine, Ohio; one great grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Mervin, Clair, Boyd, and Russell Adams and Charles Shick; three sisters, Esther Kunselman, Edith Snyder and Mona Smithberger.

Due to Covid-19 concerns, there will be no public services. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
