Castagnolo Wins 200th Game as Clearfield Coach; Brookville Captures Tourney Title


CURWENSVILLE, Pa. (D9Sports) – Alyna Ryan scored 15 points and Brooke Cline added 14 as visiting Clearfield beat Curwensville, 45-15, to give Clearfield head coach Joey Castagnolo his 200th career victory.

Nicollette Brossard added 10 points in the milestone victory for the Lady Bison.

Sabrina Spencer paced Curwensville with six points.

BROOKVILLE 48, DUBOIS 41

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Marcy Schindler’s 17 points and 19 rebounds led Brookville to a 48-41 win over DuBois in the Brookville Christmas Tournament Championship game.

Schindler earned the tournament MVP award and was joined by Morgan Johnson on the all-tournament team. Johnson and Lauren Hergert finished with 10 points apiece.

DuBois put three players in double figures with 11 points apiece with Chelsea DeSalve, Ashley Hallowell and Caitlin Drahushak. DeSalve finished off a double-double with 11 rebounds while Hallowell, who fouled out with DuBois leading 34-33 with 2:38 remaining, had nine boards. Both Hallowell and DeSalve were all-tourney picks.

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 55, BROCKWAY 46

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Notching first-year head coach Jordan Hoover his first win, DuBois Central Catholic claimed third place at the Brookville Christmas Tournament with a 55-46 win over Brockway.

The Lady Cardinals put three players in double-figure scoring with Shayleigh Gulvas and Alyssa Bittner scoring 14 points apiece while Ashley Wruble scored 12 points. Gulvas collected a team-high nine rebounds and earned all-tournament status.

Brockway also had three players reach double-figure scoring. Kaitlyn Morelli had 16 points, Leah Lindemuth scored 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, and Shaughny Richardson came off the bench to finish with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

HAZLETON 46, PUNXSUTAWNEY 42, OVERTIME

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Hazleton outscored Punxsutawney 6-2 in overtime to get a 46-42 win in the championship game of the Carl Truance Holiday Tournament at Punxsutawney.

Leah Miller sent the game to overtime with a shot at the buzzer of regulation to tie the game at 40, but Maddie Mrochko hit a 3-pointer in the extra session with Kyra Antolick adding three free throws.

Mrochko led Hazleton with 17 points with Faith Grula adding 11.

Miller had 21 points and 18 rebounds to lead Punxsutawney with Kate Horner chipping in five points and five steals and Sarah Weaver five points and four assists.

MARION CENTER 47, MONITEAU 42

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Grace Snyder scored 16 points to help Marion Center knock off Moniteau, 47-42, in the consolation game of the Carl Truance Holiday Tournament at Punxsutawney.

Jackie Fetsko added 14 points for the Stingers.

Emma Bair paced Moniteau with 22 points and 10 rebounds with Kristin Auvil adding 11 points.

FOREST AREA 39, CLARION-LIMESTONE 38, OVERTIME

NEW BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Jasmine Ginnery hit the game-winning free throw with 1.7 seconds left in overtime to give Forest Area a 39-38 win over Clarion-Limestone in the consolation game of the Redbank Valley Christmas Tournament.

The Fires outscored the Lady Lions 5-4 in overtime after C-L had forced the extra session by outscoring Forest Area 16-10 in the fourth quarter.

Ginnery led Forest with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Cassie Cochran added 13 rebounds to go with six points.

Maddy Craig paced C-L with 15 points with Morgan Clark adding 10 tallies.
