Charges Filed Against Man Accused of Choking Woman During Altercation in Sykesville

SKYESVILLE BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – Criminal charges have been filed against a man who allegedly choked a woman during an altercation in Sykesville Borough earlier this month.

Court documents indicate the DuBois-based State Police filed criminal charges against 34-year-old Daniel Leonard Williams, of Sykesville.

According to a criminal complaint, around 1:02 a.m. on April 10, DuBois-based State Police were dispatched to investigate an alleged assault that occurred at a residence on Shaffer Street in Sykesville Borough.

According to the complaint, the victim reported that she and Daniel Leonard Williams became engaged in a verbal argument, and Williams then locked her out of the residence. She told police she returned to the residence to get her car keys so she could leave, and she and Williams became engaged in a verbal argument again.

The victim reported Williams grabbed her by the neck and threw her to the ground, the complaint states. The victim became frightened and screamed for help, and Williams then allegedly choked her with both hands until another individual intervened in the incident. The victim then left the residence.

The complaint notes police observed reddening around the victim’s neck.

Williams was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge David B. Inzana at 10:45 a.m. on April 10, on the following charges:

– Strangulation – Applying Pressure to Throat or Neck, Misdemeanor 2
– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2
– Harassment – Subject Other to Physical Contact, Summary

He remains free on $20,000.00 unsecured bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on April 28, with Judge Inzana presiding.
