Charges Filed Against Rockton Man After Authorities Find Meth, Marijuana in Washington Twp. House

WASHINGTON TWP., Pa. (EYT) – A Rockton man is facing criminal charges after authorities found methamphetamine, marijuana plants, and other drugs in a residence in Washington Township, Jefferson County.

Court documents indicate the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office filed the following criminal charges against 27-year-old Ryan Schoening, of Rockton:

– Manufacture, Delivery, or Possession with Intent to Manufacture or Deliver, Felony (ten counts)
– Intentional Possession Controlled Substance By Person Not Registered, Misdemeanor (three counts)

According to a criminal complaint, around 3:24 p.m. on August 9, 2017, officers of the Jefferson County Drug Task Force attempted to contact Ryan Charles Schoening in regards to a possible marijuana grow operation within a Beechton Road, Washington Township residence. The officers approached the residence for a “knock and talk” encounter, during which police confront a subject with known information and attempt to gain further information on criminal activity.

Upon approaching the residence, a known woman was pulling up in a vehicle. The officers spoke with the woman who stated she was Schoening’s girlfriend and confirmed that the residence belonged to Schoening. She told police that Schoening uses the basement door on a regular basis, along with a door located at the rear of the residence, near the dirt driveway. The rear door was the same door the neighbors reported seeing Schoening using regularly, as well.

One of the officers knocked on the first door, at the basement entrance, and was unable to make contact. While waiting for an answer, the officers noted an obvious odor of marijuana in the raw.

Two officers secured the property as a third applied for a search warrant and was secured and executed at 5:34 p.m.

Within the residence, ten marijuana plants, growing lights, and fans were recovered from the third floor. Three grams of crystal methamphetamine, ten grams of marijuana, 24 Adderall pills, and a digital scale were also recovered from a safe located on the third floor. All of the plants, scaled, and controlled substances were secured and placed into evidence, and the growing materials that were not secured were destroyed at the scene.

Charges were filed on Friday, March 23, in Magisterial District Judge David B. Inzana’s office.

Schoening is currently awaiting a preliminary hearing.
