Clarion Golf Wraps Up First Day at Edwin Cottrell Invitational

WEST CHESTER, Pa. — The Golden Eagle men’s and women’s golf teams enjoyed solid outings to open the Edwin Cottrell Invitational on Monday afternoon.

The men’s team earned a spot in fifth place in the field after 18 holes at Penn Oaks Golf Club, and shot a team score of 304.

Due to incoming inclement weather, tomorrow’s action will be shortened to just nine holes, making this a 27-hole tournament.

Will Meyer tied for 13th in the field by carding a round of 74, putting him just one stroke off the top-10 in the field.

Meyer carded four total birdies for the round, including back-to-back birdies on par-5 No. 4 and par-four No. 5. In fact, Meyer birdied every par-five on the course.

Brennan Karalfa was just one stroke behind Meyer, tying for 19th in the field with a score of 75. He added three birdies of his own, including a pair on par-4s, Nos. 8 and 15. Ryan Robinson was third on the team and tied for 23rd overall, shooting a 77 that included a birdie on par-4 No. 17.

The women’s team kicked off their spring season, also at the Edwin Cottrell Invitational on Monday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles clocked in at fourth in the field through 18 holes of action and shot a team score of 377 at Glen Oaks Golf Club.

Hannah Smith was the leader on the board for the Golden Eagles, ranking 10th in the field with a big push down the back nine. After shooting bogey or double bogey on each of the first four holes, Smith settled in down the stretch, going over par on just five of the remaining 14 holes to shoot a team-best 85. She is just one stroke off eighth place entering action on Tuesday.

McKayla Kerle contributed to the team score with a score of 94, tying her for 21st in the field with teammate McLain Alt, who competed as an individual.

Sylvia Stibley and Hailee Liptak rounded out the scoring for the Golden Eagles, shooting identical scores of 99.
