Clarion Grabs Early Lead on its Way to an 8-2 Win over C-L in KSAC Baseball Action

STRATTANVILLE, Pa. (D9Sports) – Despite managing just one extra-base hit, Clarion scored six runs in the first two innings off Clarion-Limestone ace Sam Leadbetter to beat its neighboring rival, 8-2, Monday at the C-L Sports Complex.

After taking a 2-0 lead after an inning on a Cam Craig RBI double and a wild pitch, the Bobcats (2-0) were able to string together three straight hits after one out in the second to help push across four more runs.

None of the hits – infield singles by Ryan Anthony and Spencer Miller and a bloop to left by Cam Craig – were hit very hard but they were effective in driving in a pair of runs after Dominic Fleming started the inning with a single to right and Josh Craig walked.

Miller’s infield single to shortstop that saw Craig beat the rap at second drove home Clarion’s third run, and Craig’s bloop to left made it 4-0. Reed Anthony then pushed home another run on a fielder’s choice, and another wild pitch scored Ryan Anthony, one of three Clarion runs to score on wild pitches.

Cam Craig, who was 2-for-3 with the double and a run scored, talked about the win.

The early lead, it was 8-0 after three thanks to an error and another wild pitch, was more than enough for Reed Anthony who was in a grove most of the afternoon.

The older of the twin Anthony brothers, Reed went five innings to get the win allowing two unearned runs on four hits and a walk while striking out 10. If first baseman Fleming hadn’t booted a more than routine grounder to the bag in third, Reed Anthony wouldn’t have allowed a run.

While Reed was pitching well, Ryan was finding a way to get on base going 3-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. He had two infield singles and a base hit to right to back up his brother.

Kyle Patterson was also 2-for-5 with two runs scored out of the leadoff spot for Clarion.

Patterson got things going in the first for the Bobcats with a base hit to right before stealing second and going to third on Ryan Anthony’s infield single to second. Craig followed with the RBI double to make it 1-0 before later scoring on a wild pitch.

Colby Himes had a double and a run scored for the Lions (0-2), while Christian Smith added a pair of singles.

Leadbetter took the loss giving up the six runs in two innings of work on seven hits and two walks while striking out four. Smith came in and went two innings allowing two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out one. Riley Hummell finished up with three scoreless innings allowing one hit and a walk while striking out six.

Sterling Conner pitched the final two innings for Clarion not allowing a base runner. He struck out two.
