Clarion Men’s Golf Five Strokes Off Lead After First Day at Vulcan Fire Classic

WASHINGTON, Pa. — The Golden Eagle men’s golf team kicked things off at the Vulcan Fire Classic on Monday, ranking eighth in the field after 18 holes of action.

Clarion shot a team score of 329 on Monday, just five strokes behind Mercyhurst, at Lone Pine Country Club.

Ryan Robinson was one of a handful of athletes tied for 29th in the field with a score of 79 on Monday. He logged three birdies in the opening round, with all of them coming on par-4s. He came in under par on holes No. 3, No. 6 and No. 16 to lead the Golden Eagles on the overall leaderboard for the day.

Will Meyer and Chase Smith both tied for 48th in the field with scores of 83. Meyer birdied the par-5 13th hole while Smith knocked in a birdie putt on the par-3 second hole.

Just one stroke behind that pair was Brennan Karalfa, who carded a score of 84. His back-nine performance was solid, with Karalfa shooting just a +2 38 over that stretch of holes.
