Clarion River Archaeology Presentation Scheduled for August 21

BROOKVILLE, Pa. (EYT) – An archaeological analysis presentation of the Clarion River State Road Ripple Site will be presented Friday, August 21, 2015.

The State Road Ripple site is situated on a long alluvial flat along the Clarion River in Highland Township of Clarion County. This location was excavated by Clarion University throughout the 1970’s under the supervision of Dr. Gustav Konitsky, and while it is noted as a significant, there has not been a completed study of the collected data or artifacts.

As part of her graduate studies, Angela Goreczny has spent the past several years analyzing the diagnostic lithics from this important site.

Her research has helped to better identify the Archaic component for this site and will eventually help complete a better understanding of the early prehistory of this area.

Angela’s program Analysis of the State Road Ripple Site will be presented at the Friday, August 21st meeting of the North Fork Chapter 29 of the Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology at the Heritage House located at 4 Sylvania Street in Brookville.

The program begins at 7:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
