Clarion U. Wrestling Inks Five Including Brookville’s Hetrick


CLARION, Pa. – Head coach Keith Ferraro announced today that the Clarion wrestling team has signed five athletes to National Letters of Intent (NLI) for the upcoming season, with all five set to come to Clarion in the 2018-19 school year.

“This class continues the trend of blending local athletes with talent from outside the area,” Ferraro said. “Kyle Kiss has proven himself, once again, to be a tremendous recruiting coordinator. We’re excited about the guys we have coming in and we look forward to their positive impact on our culture and team.”

Here’s a look at each of the newest members of the Golden Eagles:

Andrew Gapas
High School: North Hunterdon
Hometown: Clinton Township, N.J.
Wt: Wrestled in the 132 weight class
New Jersey State Place winner …Earned MVP at HWS Tournament after winning the bracket … Had an overall record of 34-7.

Caleb Hetrick
High School: Brookville
Hometown: Brookville, Pa.
Wt: Wrestled in the 152 and 160 weight classes
Two-time PIAA State Place Winner … Two time Powerade Place Winner … Had an overall record 92-31 … Finished second in the district and region during in 2016… Finished first in the district and region in 2017.

Seth Koleno
High School: Bald Eagle Area
Hometown: Clarence, Pa.
Wt: Wrestled in 138, 145, and 152 weight classes
Two-time PIAA State Place Winner … Finished first in the district in 2015 & 2016 … Finished second in the district, first in the region, and fifth in the state during the 2016-2017 season … Had an overall record of 95-19.

Michael Vernagallo
High School: Cape Fear
Hometown: Fayetteville, N.C.
Wt: Wrestled in the 170 weight class
Three-time North Carolina State Place Winner … Two-time finalist … Had an overall record of 59-2 … 2016 NHSCA All-American … 2017 Super 32 All-American … 2017 NC 4A 170 State Champion.

Brock Whorton
High School: East Fairmont
Hometown: East Fairmont, W.Va.
Wt: Likely to wrestle in the 125-pound weight class at Clarion
Two time West Virginia State Champ as a freshman and sophomore… Was the state runner-up as a junior … Had an overall record of 149-13.
