Brookville Grad Brock Zacherl Named EWL Freshman of the Week

brock zacherl ics (2)LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (EYT) Clarion University freshman wrestler Brock Zacherl (141-pounds; Brookville) was named the EWL (Eastern Wrestling League) “Freshman of the Week” yesterday following his winning performance on Sunday at the Purple Raider Open hosted at Mount Union.

The award is the second time this year Zacherl has earned the EWL honor, while he is in red-shirt season at Clarion University.

Zacherl won the Purple Raider Open by posting a 5-0 record at 141-pounds. He opened with a 15-3 major decision over Zachary Reges of Gannon, then pinned Narcisco Inchaurrqui of Notre Dame College at 1:07. He
decisioned Jerry Ronnau of Virginia Tech 11-4, defeated Michigan State’s Brandon Fifield 6-0 in the semi’s and then topped Kyle Springer of Eastern Michigan 5-3 in the finals.brock zacherl ics (1)

Zacherl, who has pushed his unattached record this season to 30-5, has won this season also at Mat Town and at the Mercyhurst Open, while finishing second at the Clarion Open and at the EMU Duals.

“Brock is having a strong red-shirt season and really deserves this honor,” said Clarion coach Keith Ferraro. “Congratulations to Brock on getting this award and his success. He is going to be a very exciting
wrestler to watch here at Clarion in the future.”

Zacherl, a true freshman, was the PIAA Class AA State champion last year from Brookville High School. He is a Business major at Clarion and is the son of Emily and Louis Zacherl.
