Clarion’s Hipps Named PSAC West Softball Pitcher of the Week for March 11

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. — The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) announced their softball weekly award winners on Monday.

Emma Hipps was named the PSAC West Pitcher of the Week thanks to her dominant performance in her final four appearances at THE Spring Games in Florida.

Hipps came on strong down the stretch in Winter Haven, going 3-1 with a 1.23 ERA in three starts. That stretch included two complete games and one complete game shutout, with the latter coming in her final appearance of the week.

Hipps allowed just one hit—a first inning single—to the College of Staten Island and faced just one batter over the minimum in the final six innings. She struck out 10 Dolphins for her first double-digit strikeout game of the season.

Hipps’ other big day came on Tuesday, when she picked up wins in both ends of a doubleheader against Concord and Minnesota State – Mankato.

She entered in relief against Concord and threw five innings of shutout ball as the Golden Eagles beat the Mountain Lions 10-5, and she followed up with a complete game win over the Mavericks, with Clarion winning 2-1 on a walk-off.

Hipps ranks fourth in the PSAC West and 11th overall in the conference with a 2.45 ERA, while her 45.2 innings pitched ranks third in the conference so far.

Opposing batters are hitting just .203 off her.
