Clarion’s Hurtado Named PSAC West Baseball Athlete of the Week

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. — The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) announced their weekly baseball award winners on Monday.

Clarion’s Alfredo Hurtado earned PSAC West Athlete of the Week honors for April 15 after a stellar week at the plate.

Hurtado powered the Golden Eagles to a 5-1 record last week, including a four-game sweep over Pitt-Johnstown as well as a non-conference victory over Bloomsburg. The junior batted .615 over the course of five games, going 8-of-13 at the plate with a double, two home runs, nine RBIs and eight runs scored.

He first displayed his clutch hitting in a 2-1 win over the Huskies on Tuesday, hitting a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning to score the winning run from third base.

He turned an even better trick in a 9-8 extra-innings win over Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday, smacking a three-run homer in the top of the ninth inning to break a 5-5 tie to lead the Golden Eagles to a win. He drove one run apiece in the next two wins over the Mountain Cats and capped the weekend off with a two-run homer in the final game to clinch a 6-0 win.

Hurtado is now the fifth Golden Eagle baseball player to win a weekly award from the PSAC this year.

Daren Byers, Caden Contant and Scotty McManamon were all previously voted PSAC Athlete of the Week, while Reilly Shafer has won a PSAC West Pitcher of the Week award.
