Clarion’s Pavasko Named To NWCA All-Academic Team

MANHEIM, Pa. – Clarion University junior wrestler Michael Pavasko (174-lbs; Munhall/Steel Valley) was named today by the NWCA (National Wrestling Coaches Association) to its prestigious 2015 NCAA Division I All-Academic team.

The NWCA released its NCAA Division I All-Academic Top 30 teams, along with 118 wrestling student-athletes who received recognition from the NWCA. An individual makes the All-Academic team if the wrestler has a 60% or higher winning percentage, wrestles in 60% or more of the team’s matches, and has achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or above.

Pavasko, a Finance major, has a cumulative GPA of 3.63 at Clarion, achieved a 4.0 GPA in the Fall 2014 semester, and had a 2015 season record of 21-14 wrestling at 174-pounds. He placed third for the Golden Eagles at the PSAC’s, 4th at the Clarion Open and 5th at the EWL Championships under first year head coach Keith Ferraro.

“This is a great honor for Michael,” said Ferraro. “We want our wrestlers to be leaders in the classroom, on the mat and in the community. Awards like this reflect on those priorities and we are proud of Michael’s accomplishments.”

Pavasko was a starter for the Golden Eagles in 2014 at 165-pounds. He placed 4th at the PSAC Championships, participated at the EWL’s and finished his season with a record of 11-22. He has a career record of 32-36.

CLARION NOTES: Michael is the son of Mick and Joyce Pavasko … He is a Clarion Scholar Athlete … From Steel Valley where he was 112-36 in his wrestling career and 4th at PIAA’s as a senior … 4 wrestling, 3 football and volleyball letters.
