SIGEL, Pa. (EYT) — Since 2005, Clear Creek’s lumbering history is being uncovered inch-by-inch by volunteer archaeologists Brian and Amanda Valko Fritz.
Clear Creek State Park is holding an Ashes and Iron Archaeological Dig from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 22, and everyone is welcome to help them discover more about the man who pounded iron in the 1800’s as part of the Frazier Sawmill Complex.
Participants are asked to meet at the blacksmith shop dig site above the maintenance building along the park road.
Individuals can come for the day or stay for an hour.
Kids ages 9 to 12 can use this program to work on their history tag; scouts can earn their archaeology badge.
Groups of 10 or more should register with the park office by calling 814-752-2368.
