Punxsutawney Man Accused of Animal Neglect

GASKILL TWP., Pa. (EYT) – A Punxsutawney man is facing criminal charges for animal neglect following an investigation by Punxsutawney-based State Police.

According to court documents, the following charges were filed against 40-year-old Charles Glenn Patterson, of Big Run on May 22:

– Neglect of Animals – Vet Care, Misdemeanor 3
– Confined Within Premises of the Owner, Summary

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on July 3 with Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock presiding.

A certified summons was issued to Patterson on May 24.

Details of the case:

Around 4:53 p.m. on March 31, Trooper Mosier, of PSP Punxsutawney, was dispatched to a found dog located on Jackson Run Road in Gaskill Township. The dog was taken to the Punxsutawney Borough dog kennel. She was then taken by a foster due to its poor condition and the holiday weekend. The female dog, an older beagle, was missing a lot of fur and had a strong odor. She constantly itched and her skin appeared dark and thick in spots.

Gateway Humane Society, in Falls Creek, took the beagle – later identified as Patty – to a DuBois animal hospital for care.

From the dog license information, Patty’s owner was identified as Charles Patterson, of Punxsutawney.

On April 4, Trooper Mosier spoke to a veterinarian at the DuBois animal hospital. He learned that Patty was treated for a chronic bacterial skin infection. She was prescribed antibiotics and steroids, and it was determined that she would need constant care in the future and numerous veterinarian visits. The first visit was to be in two weeks for a total of three to four visits.

On April 7, Patterson picked up Patty from Gateway Humane Society and was given instructions on further veterinarian care.

On April 28, around 9:06 a.m., it was learned that Patty had neither seen a veterinarian nor was an appointment scheduled.
